By Cali Weber Day One The video feed flashed with static before settling in focus, showing a metal desk and chair inside a small, brightly lit room. The fluorescent lights bounced off the shiny metal walls, illuminating even the awkward space behind the red upholstered couch in the corner of the frame. “Did you get it turned on?” A stern female voice beyond the sight of the camera asked. “Yes, Sarge,” Another voice responded from out of frame. “I told you I’m not dumb.”

I love hosting parties until the party comes. I love the planning, the decorating, the perfect curating of the never-ending playlist, poring over who to invite and who to tactfully leave out.
